Am I a Bully?
If you're unsure you're a bully, ask
yourself these questions:
- Do you regularly threaten, hit, kick, taunt,
intimidate, tease, abuse or pick on other students attending
your
school or any other students from another school?
- Do you name-call other students with
what you think to be a 'difference'? This may include appearance, skills
you may not have, nationality or hobbies.
- Do you pick on one or more people in a
group and laugh and have fun at their expense?
So, are you a bully? If you are, you must
realise that your actions are harmful and whole children's lives may be at
risk. I'm sure you wouldn't like to be in their position!
Stopping Your Bullying
Ask yourself- why do I bully? Why do I
want to hurt others and make people feel miserable and upset?
Here are some tips on
how you can stop your bullying:
- If you bully for popularity
remember that you'll be just as popular if you were with your mates
instead of being a bully. You can become popular for doing other
things such as sporting achievement, and school leadership.
- If you have the courage to bully someone, then
you should be able to help
someone else.
- Try to be more assertive-
it's an easier and safer way to get what you want instead of
bullying.
- Find things to do that interest you and
that takes you away from bullying.
- Tell yourself that you are a good
person who doesn't want to hurt others.
- When you may want to lash out
and say something offensive, bite your tongue, count to 10 and then walk
away from the situation.
If you bully because you've
been bullied before or you think it's 'fun', stop it. If you're aware of
other victims of bullying, help them to overcome their problem.
Remember, no-one deserves to be bullied!!
