Today in Australian Schools, there are too many children being bullied. Bullying is a frequent issue in the media and in schools, and children are becoming emotionally and mentally traumatized. We need a complete anti-bullying package for primary (and high school children) children that presents new ideas and is able to remind them constantly if we are to stand a chance in the fight against bullying. That's where my package comes in. I, Nathan Cassar, a yr 11 student, have developed an anti-bullying package that combats bullying at a higher level. Entitled "It's NOT Cool To Be CRUEL!!" , my main aim is to make a complete package that informs and constantly reinforces the message that bullying is wrong. It's Not Cool To Be Cruel! (from left) Robbie Farah, Ken Marslew, Nathan Cassar, Chris Heighington The program was first launched in 2008 atCamden Public School, and later in the year at Cobbitty Public School, with the assistance of Camden Council and Camden Lions. The program since then has taken an exciting development, with both the Wests Tigers Rugby League Club and the Enough is Enough Anti-Violence Movement partnering with myself to take my program to the next level.   As part of a launch at each school we attend, a DVD featuring Wests Tigers players saying key anti-bullying messages (drawn from this website) and myself will be shown so as to instil positive attitudes amongst the primary-age students. The DVD also features a special “Parents” section that has the Wests Tigers’ Head Coach Tim Sheens and Assistant Coach Royce Simmons saying key messages for parents from this website.   At each launch each child will also receive a pencil, bookmark, poster, sticker and ruler. Each item is used and viewed by school children each day at school, and the constant exposure to my logo and the messages will, we believe, help contribute to positive social attitudes.  Combined with this website, together each item creates a circular message that is reinforced for the whole year. These are all things that are used and accessed by children in Australian schools everyday, and if this package were put into practice, the message would be strongly put across for the entire year. This, in turn, breeds a society of young children and adolescents that view bullying as wrong, and hopefully reduces bullying rates substantially.  Students may find themselves telling their peers that “It’s NOT Cool To Be CRUEL!!” when someone is being bullied. This might put off the bully as they know that the school doesn’t stand for bullying and that their fellow peers believe that to be true as well, even if they really don’t. My package is aimed mostly towards primary school children , as my products have been designed accordingly to fit the needs of primary school students.This website features easy-to-read text that could easily be accessed by a year 3 student , and parents may also easily help their child on the website if required below the year 3 level. If a package such as mine was implemented into primary schools, it would be sending the message that bullying is wrong at an early stage, therefore taking the message throughout their whole schooling career. My package ensures that 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year, the anti-bullying message is being sent across into children’s minds and help and support will be available whenever they may need it.
